Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated once again after Afghanistan accused Pakistan of carrying out fresh airstrikes inside its territory. Afghan officials said the attacks killed at least 13 people and injured 14 others. Among the dead were reportedly 11 children, one woman, and one elderly man.
According to the Taliban-led government in Kabul, the strikes targeted the eastern Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika. Afghan authorities strongly condemned the attacks and described them as a violation of the country’s sovereignty. Pakistan had not officially acknowledged the reported strikes at the time of the latest reports.
The latest incident comes amid months of growing hostilities between the two neighboring countries. Since February 2026, cross-border clashes, airstrikes, and retaliatory attacks have resulted in hundreds of casualties on both sides of the border. The conflict has become one of the most serious security crises in the region in recent years.
Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of sheltering militants from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group responsible for numerous attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad says military operations across the border target militant hideouts and infrastructure. However, the Taliban government in Afghanistan denies providing sanctuary to the group and rejects Pakistan’s allegations.
The renewed violence has raised concerns among regional observers and international organizations. Analysts warn that continued military actions could further destabilize the border region and worsen humanitarian conditions for civilians living near the frontier. Calls for dialogue and diplomatic engagement have increased as both countries face pressure to prevent the conflict from spiraling into a broader regional crisis.
The situation remains fluid, with both sides maintaining heightened security along their shared border while the international community closely monitors developments.
