Three-Day Visit Marks a Milestone in Bilateral Relations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Seychelles on a three-day State Visit from June 27 to 29. He will attend the island nation’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. Notably, this year also marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, making the visit especially significant.
Focus on Stronger Strategic Partnership
During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie. The leaders are expected to review cooperation in maritime security, economic development, trade, healthcare and capacity building. Moreover, both countries aim to deepen collaboration in the Indian Ocean region under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR initiative.
Historic Address and Community Interaction
Apart from official meetings, PM Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. He will also interact with the Indian community living in the country. These engagements are expected to strengthen people-to-people ties and further expand the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
India and Seychelles Continue to Deepen Cooperation
India and Seychelles have maintained close diplomatic relations for five decades. The two countries regularly work together on maritime security, disaster management and regional development. Additionally, Indian naval ships and an armed forces contingent will participate in Seychelles’ National Day celebrations, highlighting the growing defence partnership. Officials believe the visit will open new opportunities for cooperation across multiple sectors.
