Punjab Cabinet eases promotion rules to fill election department vacancies ahead of Assembly polls

The Punjab Cabinet has made some changes to the rules for promoting people who work in the Election Department. They want to make sure that there are senior people in the department before the Assembly elections.

The Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann was in charge of the Cabinet meeting where they made this decision. They decided to change the rules so that people can get promoted from Election Kanungo to Election Tehsildar after twelve years of service of fifteen years.

The reason they made this change is that a lot of positions are empty right now. In fact there are seven Election Tehsildar positions that are not filled. The government said that the old rule was not working because nobody had been working for fifteen years.

Now that the rules have been changed people who have been working for twelve years can get promoted to these positions. This will help the Election Department get stronger before the elections. The Election Department is doing a job of updating the voter lists in Punjab.

The people who are in charge of this job are called Election Tehsildars. They make sure that the voter lists are correct and that everything is ready for the elections. The government of Punjab is happy with how the voter list update’s going. They have already checked a lot of the voter information.

The government of Punjab says that they changed the promotion rules to make sure they have staff. They do not want to change the way the elections are run. They just want to make sure that the Election Department is ready, for the elections. The Punjab Government hopes that by promoting people the Election Department will be fully prepared for the Assembly elections.
