Chandigarh, June 27: The Punjab Congress is yet to announce its long-awaited organisational restructuring. The delay has raised concerns among party leaders and workers about the party’s preparations for future political challenges.
Despite several meetings between the Congress high command and senior Punjab leaders, the new organisational team has not been finalised. Party workers are now waiting for the appointment of district presidents, office-bearers and members of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
Many Congress workers believe the delay could affect the party’s grassroots activities. They say a strong organisational structure is necessary to improve coordination and strengthen the party across Punjab.
According to party sources, the Congress leadership is carefully reviewing the proposed list of leaders before making the final announcement. The party wants to maintain a balance between experienced leaders and young faces. It is also trying to ensure fair representation for different regions and communities in Punjab.
Senior Congress leaders have held several meetings in New Delhi over the past few weeks. However, discussions on some important appointments are still continuing. As a result, the official announcement has been postponed.
The delay comes at a time when political activity in Punjab is increasing. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have already stepped up their organisational work and public outreach programmes ahead of future elections.
Congress leaders have rejected claims of internal differences. They say the restructuring process is a routine organisational exercise and that the party remains united. According to them, the leadership wants to appoint a capable team that can strengthen the organisation at every level.
Political experts believe the Congress should complete the organisational revamp as soon as possible. District committees and local office-bearers play an important role in connecting with voters, organising public programmes and coordinating election campaigns. A further delay could slow the party’s preparations and weaken its organisational momentum.
Party insiders remain hopeful that the Congress high command will announce the new team after completing the consultation process. Until then, workers continue to wait for clarity on leadership responsibilities and the party’s future strategy in Punjab.
