Residents of Punjab will have to endure intense heat for at least two more days as heatwave conditions continue across several parts of the state. According to weather officials, temperatures are expected to remain above normal until the evening of June 11, after which a change in weather may bring some relief.
Several districts, including Bathinda, Mansa, Muktsar, Fazilka, and Faridkot, have recorded extremely high temperatures in recent days. In some areas, the mercury has approached 45 degrees Celsius, making outdoor activities difficult during the afternoon hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Authorities have urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and limit outdoor work whenever possible.
Health experts have also warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Children, elderly citizens, and people with existing health conditions face a higher risk during extreme weather conditions.
Meteorologists expect a gradual change in weather from the evening of June 11. Increased cloud cover, stronger winds, and the possibility of light rainfall in some areas may help bring temperatures down. However, officials said the exact intensity of the weather change will depend on local atmospheric conditions.
Farmers are also keeping a close watch on weather developments as the paddy sowing season approaches. Cooler temperatures and possible rainfall could provide some relief to agricultural activities across the state.
Meanwhile, electricity demand has risen sharply due to the increased use of air conditioners and cooling appliances. Power authorities have assured consumers that they are taking necessary steps to maintain an uninterrupted electricity supply.
Until then, residents are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines as Punjab continues to experience severe summer heat.
