Punjab’s environmental governance has come under increasing scrutiny as reports of illegal tree felling continue to surface across the state. Environmentalists and conservation groups have raised concerns over the removal of mature and heritage trees, alleging that several projects have proceeded without obtaining mandatory environmental clearances and approvals.
According to activists, authorities and private developers have cut down or uprooted numerous trees to make way for roads, commercial complexes, infrastructure projects, and urban expansion. Many of these trees have stood for decades and play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, reducing air pollution, and providing shade in densely populated areas.
