New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a strong attack on the central government over its handling of recent student protests, alleging excessive use of force and demanding accountability from the top leadership.
Gandhi also claimed that the government is considering moving Dharmendra Pradhan to another ministry, a move he termed “unacceptable” if used to deflect responsibility. Reports, however, suggest that the government continues to stand by Pradhan, with no official confirmation of any reshuffle.
Criticising the alleged crackdown on students, Gandhi said the use of force against peaceful protesters goes against democratic values. He stressed that students have the right to voice their concerns and should be heard, not silenced.
“The youth of this country deserve respect and dialogue,” Gandhi said, calling for accountability over the incident. He further demanded that Narendra Modi issue a public apology to students affected by the protests.
In a sharp remark, Gandhi referred to the Prime Minister as “India’s past,” positioning the country’s youth as the future and urging the government to engage more constructively with them.
The issue has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders backing Gandhi’s demand for transparency and accountability, while supporters of the government argue that maintaining law and order during protests is essential.
As the controversy grows, there has been no official response from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the demand for an apology. The situation continues to draw attention, highlighting concerns over the balance between governance and democratic rights in the country.
