Russia has again accused the United States of supporting biological research labs in Ukraine. The claims have increased tensions between Moscow and Western countries during the ongoing war.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it found documents linked to US-funded biological projects in Ukrainian laboratories. Russian officials claimed the labs studied dangerous pathogens and biological materials. They argued that such research could threaten regional security.
The United States strongly denied the allegations. US officials called the claims false and misleading. They said the laboratories focus on public health, disease control, and biosecurity research. According to Washington, the facilities do not develop biological weapons.
Ukraine also rejected the accusations. Ukrainian officials said the laboratories follow international scientific and health standards. They accused Russia of spreading propaganda during the conflict.
The issue first gained attention in the early stages of the Russia-Ukraine war. Since then, Russia has repeatedly raised concerns about US involvement in Ukrainian laboratories. However, no independent international investigation has confirmed the existence of a biological weapons programme.
The United Nations and the World Health Organization have monitored discussions around the claims. Experts say countries often work together on biological research. Such cooperation usually supports disease tracking, vaccine development, and global health security.
The latest accusations may further damage relations between Russia and Western nations. The debate has also increased global discussions about biosecurity, scientific transparency, and foreign-funded research programmes.
