Four Members of Sonipat Family Killed in Delhi–Dehradun Expressway Accident

Sonipat, June 29, 2026: Four members of a family from Haryana’s Sonipat district lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway. The crash occurred near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Three other family members suffered serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital.

According to police officials, the family was travelling in a car at the time of the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver reversed the vehicle on the expressway. Moments later, a speeding SUV crashed into the car from behind. As a result, both vehicles suffered heavy damage.

Soon after the collision, police and emergency teams reached the accident site. They rescued the injured passengers and shifted them to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, doctors confirmed that three victims remain under treatment. The bodies of the deceased were later sent for post-mortem examination.

Police have started an investigation into the incident. Officers are collecting CCTV footage and recording eyewitness statements. In addition, they are examining whether any traffic rules were violated before the crash.

Road safety experts say that reversing on an expressway is highly dangerous. High-speed roads are designed for uninterrupted traffic movement. Therefore, motorists should continue to the next exit instead of reversing after missing their route. This simple precaution can prevent serious accidents.

Following the incident, authorities appealed to drivers to follow all traffic rules. They also advised motorists to maintain safe speeds and avoid sudden lane changes. Moreover, officials asked travellers to stay alert throughout their journey and contact emergency services whenever necessary.

The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety on India’s expanding expressway network. However, experts believe that responsible driving, better awareness, and strict enforcement of traffic rules can reduce such incidents. They also stressed that following basic safety guidelines can help save lives on high-speed roads.
