UK prime minister condemns Belfast unrest and promises action against those responsible.

BELFAST, June 10 — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has strongly condemned anti-immigrant violence that erupted in Belfast following a knife attack, describing the disorder as “shocking and completely unacceptable” and warning that those responsible would face the “full force of the law.”

The unrest saw rioters target homes and vehicles in several areas of the Northern Ireland capital, with reports of property damage and clashes between protesters and police. Authorities deployed additional officers to restore order and protect affected communities.

Police said investigations were ongoing into both the knife attack that preceded the unrest and the subsequent acts of violence. Officials urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading misinformation while inquiries continue.

Starmer said individuals appeared to have been targeted because of their background and stressed that violence and intimidation would not be tolerated. Government officials have pledged support for law enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute those involved.

The disturbances have renewed debate over immigration, community relations, and public safety in the United Kingdom. Community leaders and advocacy groups have called for restraint and urged residents to reject violence.

Observers warn that such incidents risk deepening social divisions and increasing tensions in already sensitive communities, while authorities focus on restoring stability and preventing further unrest.
