Taiwan has launched a new online platform aimed at collecting intelligence and public reports related to activities linked to China, as authorities seek to strengthen national security amid continuing cross-strait tensions. The initiative was announced by the National Security Bureau (NSB), which said the website will allow citizens to submit information concerning suspected espionage, influence operations, cyber activities, and other potential security threats.
The NSB introduced the platform through a one-minute AI-generated video depicting a Chinese civil servant witnessing colleagues being removed and investigated by authorities. In a statement, the bureau said the video was intended to illustrate what it described as a climate of fear and uncertainty under China’s political system, arguing that such conditions can affect individuals working within state institutions.
Taiwanese officials said the platform is designed to encourage greater public participation in safeguarding national security. Security analysts noted that public reporting systems can help authorities identify emerging threats, although they emphasized the importance of verifying information and preventing misuse of the reporting process.
The launch comes amid ongoing concerns in Taiwan about espionage, cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, military pressure, and influence operations attributed to Beijing. In recent years, Taipei has expanded efforts to counter foreign interference through legal reforms, public awareness campaigns, and enhanced cooperation among security agencies.
Political observers said the initiative reflects Taiwan’s broader strategy of involving civil society in national security efforts. They also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in government communication, noting that AI-generated content can help convey messages effectively but may also raise questions regarding ethics, transparency, and public trust.
Chinese officials had not immediately responded to the announcement. However, Beijing has consistently opposed measures it views as promoting separatism or increasing tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
International security experts said the platform could improve public awareness of security risks, while human rights advocates stressed the need to ensure that reporting mechanisms protect privacy and avoid false accusations. As geopolitical tensions continue in the region, the new initiative underscores Taiwan’s efforts to strengthen resilience against perceived security threats while encouraging greater public engagement in national defense.
