Police pursue speeding truck for nearly two hours after 11-year-old boy loses his life in road accident
RAIPUR, June 26: A truck driver was arrested after leading police on a dramatic 60-kilometre chase in Chhattisgarh following a fatal road accident that claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy. The chase lasted for nearly two hours and ended near Korkotti village, close to the Maharashtra border, where the truck went out of control and veered off the road.
According to police, the accident took place when the speeding truck hit the child before the driver fled the scene. Instead of stopping, he continued driving and even broke through two police barriers during his escape. As a result, officers from multiple police stations joined the pursuit to prevent him from crossing into the neighbouring state.
Police launch coordinated chase
Police teams quickly alerted nearby checkpoints after receiving information about the incident. Meanwhile, officers tracked the truck’s movement and coordinated with neighbouring districts to block possible escape routes.
Eventually, the chase came to an end near Korkotti village, around six kilometres before the Maharashtra border. The truck lost control, left the road, and stopped, allowing officers to arrest the driver without further incident.
Investigation gets underway
Following the arrest, police registered a case and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Furthermore, officials are examining witness statements and collecting evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
Authorities have also confirmed that the truck has been seized for further inspection. In addition, forensic experts may examine the vehicle as part of the investigation.
Questions over road safety
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about reckless driving and road safety. Similarly, experts have stressed the importance of stricter enforcement against speeding and hit-and-run cases to reduce accidents on highways.
Police urge responsible driving
Officials have appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with authorities after any road accident. Therefore, they have reminded drivers that fleeing from an accident can lead to more serious legal consequences.
As the investigation continues, police say further legal action will follow based on the evidence collected during the inquiry.
