Trump Faces Setback as US House Approves Measure to Halt Iran Conflict

In a significant political setback for US President Donald Trump, the House of Representatives has passed a war powers resolution calling for an end to US military involvement in the Iran conflict. The move reflects growing bipartisan concern over the war and sends what lawmakers described as a “loud and unambiguous message” to the White House.

The resolution passed by a narrow 215-208 vote, with four Republican lawmakers joining Democrats in support of the measure. It directs the administration to withdraw American forces engaged in hostilities with Iran unless Congress formally authorizes military action.

Supporters of the resolution argued that the Constitution grants Congress the authority to declare war and that prolonged military operations should not continue without legislative approval. Democratic lawmakers said the vote demonstrates growing public dissatisfaction with a conflict that has lasted for months and contributed to economic uncertainty and rising energy costs.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee Democrats described the vote as a clear warning to President Trump, stating that it is time to end what they called an unpopular war. The measure represents one of the strongest congressional challenges to Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict since fighting began.

However, the resolution faces major hurdles before becoming effective. It must still pass the Senate and would likely face a presidential veto. Even if approved by both chambers, legal questions remain over how much authority Congress can exercise in directing military operations already underway.

Despite those challenges, political analysts say the vote highlights growing pressure on the administration and signals increasing willingness among some Republicans to break ranks with the president on foreign policy issues.
