Sirsa: Marking World Blood Donor Day, Sirsa district witnessed an inspiring display of community spirit as voluntary blood donation camps organised across the district collected more than 100 units of blood. The initiative was aimed at addressing the growing demand for blood in hospitals and creating awareness about the importance of regular blood donation.
The camps were organised through the joint efforts of the District Red Cross Society, health authorities, social organisations and volunteers, who encouraged people from all walks of life to participate in the noble cause. Young donors, women, first-time contributors and regular blood donors came forward enthusiastically to donate blood, highlighting the district’s strong culture of social service.
Officials said that every unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives, especially those of accident victims, patients undergoing major surgeries, cancer patients and individuals suffering from blood disorders such as thalassemia. Donors were provided with health check-ups before the donation process to ensure their well-being and eligibility.
Speaking on the occasion, district officials expressed gratitude to all donors for their selfless contribution. They emphasised that blood cannot be manufactured artificially, making voluntary donation the only reliable source for maintaining adequate blood stocks in hospitals. The camps also served as a platform to educate people about the safety of blood donation and dispel common misconceptions associated with it.
World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on June 14 to recognise the life-saving contributions of blood donors worldwide. This year’s activities in Sirsa reinforced the message that a small act of kindness can make a significant difference in saving lives.
