New Delhi | July 9: Heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR on Thursday, bringing normal life to a halt in several areas. According to weather officials, the city received 34.9 mm of rainfall in just three hours, causing waterlogging, traffic jams, and delays in public transport. In response to the changing weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert and advised residents to stay indoors unless necessary.
The sudden spell of rain provided relief from the recent heat. However, it also created major problems for commuters across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and nearby areas. Several roads were flooded, making travel difficult during peak hours.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Traffic
The continuous rainfall led to waterlogging in many low-lying areas. As a result, vehicles moved slowly and long traffic queues were reported on several major roads. Many office-goers and school students also faced delays because of poor road conditions.
Meanwhile, civic agencies deployed teams to clear water from affected locations. Authorities also monitored vulnerable areas to prevent further disruption and ensure public safety.
IMD Advises Residents to Stay Alert
The IMD has warned that more rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds may affect Delhi-NCR over the next few hours. Therefore, residents have been asked to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather updates.
People living in low-lying areas have also been advised to remain cautious. Emergency services have been kept on standby to respond quickly to any rain-related incidents.
Administration Appeals for Caution
The administration has urged people to avoid driving through waterlogged roads and to report emergencies immediately. Drivers have also been asked to maintain a safe speed and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities.
Officials believe that continuous monitoring and public cooperation are essential during the ongoing monsoon season. If heavy rainfall continues, more areas could experience traffic disruptions and waterlogging.
