Chandigarh, May 13. Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said the state government is taking major steps to promote natural and organic farming across Haryana.
He said the initiative aims to increase farmers’ income while reducing the excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. The government also wants to improve soil fertility and encourage sustainable farming practices.
Rs 10,000 Subsidy for Farmers
The minister said farmers adopting natural or organic farming will receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per acre every year for the next five years.
He added that farmers must obtain certification for their produce from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority to avail the scheme benefits. According to him, certification will ensure the quality and credibility of organic products in the market.
Rana said consumer demand for organic products is increasing as people are becoming more health conscious. He added that the government wants farmers to benefit from better market prices through organic farming.
800 Acres of Government Land for Organic Farming
The Agriculture Minister said nearly 800 acres of land owned by the Agriculture Department will also be brought under natural and organic farming.
He said the government will lease this land only to farmers who commit to practising organic or natural farming for at least 10 years. According to him, this move will help create a strong long-term base for organic agriculture in Haryana.
State-Level Certification System
Rana said the government is also working to simplify the certification process for farmers. He announced that the Haryana State Seed Certification Agency will be designated as the authorised body for organic farming certification in the state.
He said this step will save farmers both time and money, as they will not need to approach outside agencies for certification.
Special Market Spaces for Organic Produce
The minister said farmers practising natural and organic farming will get dedicated spaces to sell their produce in mandis across several districts. These districts include Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar, Charkhi Dadri and Narnaul.
He added that modern laboratories will also be established in these mandis to test the quality of organic produce. The laboratories will be developed by the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board.
Focus on Better Market Access
Rana said the state will also complete the process of obtaining APEDA recognition for testing and certification of organic produce. The Haryana State Seed Certification Agency will manage this process.
According to him, the initiative will help Haryana’s organic products gain recognition in national and international markets.
The minister said the scheme will not only increase farmers’ income but also support environmental protection, improve soil quality and provide healthier food to consumers.
