Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several parts of Himachal Pradesh as temperatures continue to rise across the state. Districts including Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, and parts of Shimla have witnessed unusually high temperatures over the past few days.
According to weather officials, dry weather conditions and strong sunlight have pushed daytime temperatures above normal levels in many low and mid-hill regions. Una recorded some of the highest temperatures in the state, while several other districts also experienced intense heat during afternoon hours.
The IMD warned that heatwave conditions may continue in isolated areas for the next two to three days. However, the department also predicted possible relief from May 29 onward due to expected rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms in some regions of the state.
Officials advised residents to avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Health experts also urged elderly people, children, and outdoor workers to take extra precautions during the ongoing heatwave.
The rising temperatures have also increased the risk of forest fires across Himachal Pradesh. Recently, major forest fires were reported in Solan and Kasauli, where the Indian Air Force deployed helicopters to assist firefighting operations.
Tourist areas including Shimla and Manali have also witnessed warmer-than-usual weather this season. Local residents and tourists expressed concern over changing climate conditions and decreasing snowfall in the hill state.
Authorities have asked district administrations to remain alert and monitor weather-related developments closely. The IMD continues to track the situation and may issue additional advisories if temperatures rise further in the coming days.
