One Family, One Chance: Haryana Tightens Job Quota Rules

The Government of Haryana has introduced a new policy on reservation in jobs for Ex-Servicemen and their families to ensure that the opportunities for employment are distributed fairly.

The new rules clarify that only people from Haryana can avail of reservation in government jobs in this category. This move will help “gone to those who are truly connected to the state,” officials said.

The other significant adjustment is strengthening of the “single benefit rule.” In other words, if a member of an ex-serviceman’s family has used the reservation, then the next member of the family will not be able to make a reservation. This is intended to avoid the situation of benefits being used year after year by the same family and others being denied this benefit.

The decision is based on an observation of the lack of uniformity in the way the former system was being used, officials said. Some worried that there were some good applicants who were not getting the chance and some families were receiving multiple chances. The updated policy is an attempt to balance this.

The move has received a mixed reaction. Others feel it’s a just step that will pave the way for more families – especially those hoping for a chance. Others, however, believe it may restrict the opportunities for families with two or more members who meet eligibility requirements to government positions.

The decision, however, has been defended by the government, which has maintained that it is striving to balance the interests of ex-servicemen’s families and equal opportunities for all.

The new rules are expected to be enforced in upcoming recruitment exercises and it has been instructed to officials to adhere strictly to the same to ensure transparency and fairness.
