Anger over the alleged police lathi-charge on students during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has spread to Haryana, with teachers, students, and youth groups staging demonstrations and demanding that the government engage in dialogue instead of using force.
In Karnal, teachers, students, and law students organized a protest march on Thursday. Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters marched from the Railway Station to the Mini Secretariat, urging the government to address the concerns of young people through discussion rather than confrontation.
Participants in the protest said that thousands of students from different states had gathered at Jantar Mantar to raise their concerns peacefully. They argued that democratic protests should be met with meaningful dialogue and that the issues affecting students deserve serious attention.
The demonstrators also expressed concern over the state of the education system and called on the government to respond constructively to the demands raised by students.
Meanwhile, several public organizations in Karnal announced another protest for Friday against the alleged police action. A meeting at the Sarv Karamchari Sangh office resolved to hold a public gathering at Fawwara Park before submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. Organizers said they wanted authorities to take student grievances seriously and ensure accountability.
Separately, the All India Insurance Employees’ Association condemned the alleged lathi-charge. The union stated that India’s education system is facing significant challenges, citing repeated instances of examination paper leaks over the past decade. The association called for greater transparency, accountability, and stronger measures to protect the integrity of competitive examinations.
The demonstrations are part of a broader wave of protests reported across several districts of Haryana, where student groups, teachers, employees’ unions, and social organizations have voiced concerns over the handling of student protests and ongoing issues related to examination paper leaks.
