For many in the villages of Haryana, a bus trip can mean the difference between arriving at a college on time, access to health care, or a better opportunity for employment. In view of the importance and need of dependable transportation, the Haryana government had set its ambition that all villages in the State will be linked by the bus service.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has told officials to develop a fresh transport plan to increase public transport upto the farthest corners of Haryana. The project aims to contribute to the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of people’s lives in rural areas and to ensure development is inclusive.
Public transport is still a lifeline for thousands of families throughout the state. The distance that students have to cover for school and college or for workers to go to industrial centres, and to the nearby cities is very long. In many villages, there are not many choices of means of transportation which can make even everyday activities difficult.
The plan aims to meet these concerns by identifying villages currently without adequate connectivity, and plans routes that will better serve the local community. Officials are also expected to do a site inspection to evaluate the needs of transportation and come up with viable solutions that will enhance mobility while not adding to the financial burden of residents.
Many people, who view transportation as more than just a convenience, have welcomed this announcement. Improved connectivity can provide access to education and services, including healthcare, business and government services. Farmers can gain access to bigger markets, young people a broader choice of career, families can move more freely when necessary.
The experts say that better transport facilities can make a significant contribution to rural development. Increased connectivity between villages boosts economic activity, supports local businesses and encourages linkages with regional economic growth.
The government hasn’t yet provided a precise schedule but the trajectory is set: Haryana is working towards developing an effective transportation network which can be available to all the citizens irrespective of their location.
The plan is not just about maps and lines on the road, but about a transportation plan for villagers who have long had to deal with transportation issues. It embodies more access, better opportunities and the certainty that development will not be limited to city boundaries.
With the plan proceeding as envisioned, Haryana could make a giant leap towards a more connected and accessible future, one bus ride at a time.
