Amritsar: Demands for compensation and a thorough investigation have intensified after a massive fire devastated Bansa Wala Bazaar, one of Amritsar’s prominent commercial markets. The blaze destroyed more than 25 shops and claimed the life of a trader, leaving several families facing heavy financial losses.

The fire spread quickly through the congested market area, causing extensive damage before firefighters managed to bring the situation under control. Emergency teams worked for hours to prevent the flames from reaching nearby establishments.

Senior BJP leader Tarun Chugh has urged the Punjab Government to provide immediate financial assistance to affected shopkeepers and the family of the deceased trader. He has also called for a judicial inquiry into the incident to determine the cause of the fire and identify any shortcomings in safety arrangements.

Chugh said the affected traders have suffered significant losses and deserve prompt support to rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about fire safety measures in crowded market areas across the state. Local traders and residents have demanded stricter safety checks and improved emergency preparedness to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The tragedy has highlighted the urgent need for stronger fire safety infrastructure while reigniting calls for accountability and relief for those affected.
