PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Chandigarh: Haryana has emerged as one of the better-performing states in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with Kurukshetra, Ambala and Kaithal districts leading the way in the installation of rooftop solar systems. The scheme, launched by the Central Government, aims to provide households with affordable clean energy and reduce electricity expenses through solar power generation.

Among the three districts, Kurukshetra has recorded the highest number of rooftop solar installations under the scheme. According to official figures, the district had received more than 5,600 applications, out of which 3,807 rooftop solar systems had already been commissioned, achieving over 81 per cent of its target. Extensive awareness campaigns and coordinated efforts by power distribution companies have played a key role in the district’s success.

Ambala and Kaithal have also demonstrated impressive progress by encouraging residents to adopt solar energy solutions. Kaithal, in particular, has been actively promoting the scheme among economically weaker sections. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had earlier stated that the state aims to install 2-kW rooftop solar systems for Antyodaya families, enabling them to significantly reduce their electricity bills.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible households receive central subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for rooftop solar installations. Beneficiaries can generate their own electricity, avail up to 300 units of free power every month, and even earn additional income by supplying surplus electricity to the grid through net metering.

Haryana has also earned national recognition for its performance under the scheme, reflecting the state’s growing commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development. Officials believe that the strong response from districts like Kurukshetra, Ambala and Kaithal will help Haryana achieve its ambitious rooftop solar targets in the coming years.
