SAD Delegation Meets Punjab Governor,Raises Sikh Panth & issue
Delegation meets Governor at Lok Bhavan, seeks action on Sikh Panth concerns, farmers’ issues, and economic challenges.

A delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Lok Bhavan on Sunday, raising a range of issues related to the Sikh Panth, farmers, labourers, and the state’s economic condition. The meeting focused on both religious and socio-economic concerns affecting Punjab.

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a detailed memorandum to the Governor, urging amendments to the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. The party stated that any changes to the Act should be made only after proper consultation with Sikh religious institutions and scholars to ensure that the sentiments of the community are fully respected.

The delegation also demanded strict and time-bound action in the 2015 sacrilege cases. They called for exemplary punishment for those found guilty, suggesting that fast-track courts be set up to ensure speedy justice. According to party representatives, delays in these cases have continued to hurt public sentiment and undermine trust in the justice system.

Apart from religious matters, the delegation raised concerns related to farmers and labourers in Punjab. They highlighted issues such as rising input costs, agricultural distress, unemployment, and lack of adequate support for rural workers. The leaders urged the Governor to take up these matters with the state and central governments to ensure timely policy intervention.

The memorandum also touched upon Punjab’s economic situation, expressing concern over slowing growth, industrial challenges, and migration of youth. The delegation stressed the need for a comprehensive economic revival plan to strengthen employment opportunities and improve financial stability in the state.

Governor Gulab Chand Kataria listened to the delegation’s concerns and assured them that the issues raised would be examined and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for consideration. However, no detailed official statement was issued immediately after the meeting.

The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with the delegation reiterating its commitment to continue raising public issues concerning Punjab at all relevant forums.
