In a shocking double murder case spanning Punjab and Haryana, a man identified as Sahil Malik was arrested after allegedly killing his uncle in Dera Bassi and later murdering his friend in Panipat within a matter of hours. The accused was apprehended by a joint team of Haryana Police near the Bhigan Toll Plaza in Sonipat following an intensive manhunt.
According to police, the incident began in the Lalru area of Dera Bassi, where Sahil allegedly shot dead his uncle, Rahul Malik, reportedly over a personal dispute. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene and travelled to Haryana. Investigators say that later the same day, he allegedly murdered his friend, identified as Ankush, near Panipat under circumstances that are still being investigated.
The bodies of both victims were subsequently recovered from bushes near a canal on the outskirts of Panipat. The discovery triggered a major police operation across multiple districts and states. Police teams analyzed CCTV footage, tracked the accused’s movements, and coordinated efforts to prevent his escape.
The breakthrough came when a joint team from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) unit of Sonipat Police and Murthal Police intercepted and arrested Sahil Malik near the Bhigan Toll Plaza. During preliminary questioning, investigators gathered details regarding the sequence of events and the possible motives behind the killings.
Police have registered murder cases and launched a detailed investigation. Authorities are now examining the relationship between the accused and both victims to determine whether the two murders were linked and whether any other individuals were involved in the crime.
