Multiple Premises Searched in Delhi
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at several locations in Delhi as part of its money laundering investigation linked to the 2021 Mundra port drug seizure case.
Officials searched multiple premises connected to individuals under investigation. Reports said the agency targeted properties linked to businessman Harpreet Singh Talwar, also known as Kabir Talwar, and several others.
The ED launched the operation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Probe Linked to Massive Heroin Seizure
The investigation stems from the seizure of 2,988.21 kilograms of Afghan-origin heroin at Gujarat’s Mundra Port in September 2021.
Authorities described the consignment as one of the largest drug seizures in the world. Smugglers allegedly hid the heroin inside shipments declared as semi-processed talc stones.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) uncovered the consignment. Soon after, central agencies launched a broader investigation into the suspected trafficking network.
ED Tracks Financial Transactions
The agency is now focusing on the money trail. Investigators are examining whether accused individuals routed proceeds from narcotics trafficking through business activities and investments.
Moreover, officials believe the latest searches could reveal fresh evidence about the movement of funds connected to the network.
The ED is also reviewing financial records, banking transactions, and digital evidence collected during the raids.
Investigation Remains Active
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies have investigated different aspects of the case over the past few years.
The case remains significant because of the massive quantity of drugs seized and the suspected links to organized criminal networks.
Meanwhile, investigators continue to analyze documents and electronic records obtained during the searches. Authorities may take further action based on the findings.
