Chandigarh Police Arrest AC Mechanic for Alleged Extortion Attempt

Accused Sent Threatening Messages to Jewellers

Chandigarh Police have arrested a 21-year-old AC mechanic in connection with an extortion case. The accused allegedly sent threatening WhatsApp messages to local jewellers and demanded money while posing as a gangster.

The arrest came after a city jeweller approached the police with a complaint. According to investigators, the sender demanded ₹5 lakh and used the name of gangster Goldy Dhillon to create fear.

Police Track Down the Suspect

The accused has been identified as Jaskarn Singh, also known as Karn. He is originally from Punjab’s Barnala district and was living in Noida, where he worked as an AC mechanic.

After registering a case on June 20, Chandigarh Police launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect. Officers later arrested him and recovered two mobile phones that were allegedly used in the crime.

Financial Problems Led to the Plan

During questioning, the accused reportedly told police that he was facing financial difficulties. Therefore, he decided to seek money through intimidation.

Investigators said he watched videos related to a recent firing incident in Chandigarh. After that, he allegedly planned the extortion attempt and collected contact numbers of several jewellers from the internet.

Investigation Continues

Police produced the accused before a court, which sent him to police custody for further questioning. Meanwhile, investigators are examining whether he targeted additional businessmen using similar methods.

The case highlights the growing misuse of social media and messaging platforms for criminal activities. At the same time, police have urged citizens to report threatening calls or messages immediately.
