cbi raid

The CBI digital arrest scam investigation has expanded with coordinated searches across Punjab, Haryana and 14 other states. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out the nationwide operation to crack down on cybercriminals accused of running fake digital arrest scams that targeted people across India.

Nationwide Raids Across 16 States and UTs

CBI teams conducted simultaneous searches at multiple locations as part of an ongoing investigation into organised cyber fraud networks. Besides Punjab and Haryana, officials searched premises in several other states to gather digital evidence and identify those involved in the scam.

According to investigators, the operation targeted organised groups that allegedly impersonated law enforcement agencies and government officials to extort money from victims.

How the Digital Arrest Scam Worked

Officials said fraudsters contacted victims through phone calls or video calls. They falsely claimed that the victim’s Aadhaar card, bank account or mobile number had been linked to illegal activities.

The scammers then threatened victims with a fake “digital arrest.” They instructed them not to contact family members or local police. The fraudsters also pressured victims to transfer money into so-called “safe” government accounts for verification.

CBI Seizes Digital Evidence

During the searches, CBI officials seized mobile phones, laptops, storage devices and financial records. Investigators believe the evidence will help trace the money trail and identify more members of the cybercrime network.

Furthermore, officials are examining bank transactions, communication records and digital devices recovered during the raids.

Authorities Warn Citizens Against Cyber Frauds

The CBI urged people to remain alert against digital arrest scams. Officials clarified that no law enforcement agency asks citizens to transfer money for verification or investigation.

Meanwhile, authorities advised the public to verify suspicious calls through official channels and report cyber fraud immediately to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or the cybercrime helpline.
