Punjab Political News: AAP Faces Opposition Over ₹1,500 Crore
Opposition Targets AAP Government Over Fresh Loan and Panchayat Land Issue

Chandigarh, June 27, 2026: Political activity in Punjab intensified on Saturday after the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government faced fresh criticism over its financial decisions. The Congress and other opposition parties questioned the state’s plan to raise a new loan. They also alleged that the government was considering steps that could affect village panchayat land.

Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa strongly criticized the government. He claimed that the AAP administration was trying to deal with financial challenges by auctioning panchayat land. According to Bajwa, such land belongs to village communities and should be protected instead of being used to generate revenue. He further alleged that the proposal reflected weak financial management.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government announced plans to raise a fresh loan of ₹1,500 crore. Officials said ₹1,000 crore would be raised through four-year state development loans, while the remaining ₹500 crore would come through 13-year securities. The government maintained that the borrowing is part of its regular financial planning and is needed to meet expenditure requirements.

However, opposition leaders questioned the growing debt burden on the state. They argued that repeated borrowing could increase financial pressure on Punjab in the coming years. Instead, they urged the government to improve revenue generation through economic reforms and better financial planning.

At the same time, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed party workers during a meeting in Sangrur. He asked them to remain alert during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Mann alleged that the BJP could try to remove the names of AAP supporters from voter lists. The BJP, however, rejected these allegations.
