Amit Shah Calls for Stronger Global Fight Against Drug Abuse on International Day
Union Home Minister urges collective action to protect youth and build a drug-free future
NEW DELHI, June 26: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reaffirmed India’s commitment to combating drug abuse, calling it one of the biggest challenges facing societies worldwide. Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, he urged governments, enforcement agencies, and citizens to work together in building a drug-free future.
Shah said the fight against narcotics requires strong cooperation at every level. Moreover, he stressed that protecting young people from drug addiction remains a national priority. His remarks came as the government continued nationwide awareness campaigns and anti-drug initiatives.
Government Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
The Union Home Minister highlighted the Centre’s commitment to a zero-tolerance approach against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Furthermore, he encouraged every section of society to support the campaign against narcotics and contribute to creating a healthier nation.
Officials also noted that coordinated efforts among enforcement agencies have strengthened action against drug networks in recent years. As a result, authorities continue expanding operations to curb illegal trafficking across the country.
Awareness Plays a Key Role
Experts believe that enforcement alone cannot solve the drug problem. Therefore, they emphasize the importance of awareness, education, and community participation in preventing substance abuse.
In addition, schools, colleges, healthcare institutions, and community organizations have organized awareness programs across the country to mark the occasion and educate young people about the dangers of drug addiction.
Focus on Youth and Prevention
Shah underlined that young people represent the nation’s future and deserve a safe, healthy environment. Meanwhile, officials continue encouraging families, teachers, and local communities to identify early signs of addiction and offer timely support.
Similarly, experts say open conversations and accessible rehabilitation services can help individuals recover and rebuild their lives.
India Continues Anti-Drug Campaign
The government has announced several initiatives aimed at reducing drug trafficking and promoting public awareness. Consequently, authorities expect stronger coordination between agencies and greater public participation in future campaigns.
As India observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse, the message remained clear: defeating drug abuse requires continuous awareness, firm enforcement, and collective responsibility from every section of society.
