CM Mann targets Shiromani Akali Dal with fresh political remarks amid ongoing political debate.

The Election Commission started a statewide house-to-house voter verification drive under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. More than 24,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are verifying the details of over 2.14 crore voters. The exercise aims to make the electoral rolls more accurate before upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government strengthened its fight against drug abuse by organizing the ‘Sanjha Suneha – Ik Jutt Punjab’ conclave. The initiative goes beyond police action and encourages public participation. Teachers, community leaders, social organizations, youth groups, and social media influencers have been invited to spread awareness against narcotics. According to the government, community support is essential to build a drug-free Punjab.

Political developments also remained in the spotlight. The Akal Takht has summoned Sikh MLAs and ministers to appear on June 29 over discussions related to the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. Responding to the summons, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the Punjab Legislative Assembly committee would decide the matter. He also emphasized the difference between legislative procedures and religious institutions.

In another political development, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann criticized the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He described it as a “nanad-bharjai party” while referring to the party’s limited elected representation. His remarks have intensified the political debate in the state ahead of future elections.

Weather also remained a major concern. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across several parts of Punjab over the next 24 hours as the southwest monsoon continues to advance. Residents have been advised to stay alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged people to follow official weather advisories.

Overall, the day’s developments reflected Punjab’s focus on clean elections, public welfare, political activity, and monsoon preparedness.
