What if Humans Suddenly Lost the Ability to Lie ?

INTRODUCTION

Imagine waking up one morning and finding out that nobody in the world can tell a lie. Every single word that comes out of our mouths is the truth. There are no fake excuses, no more hidden agendas, no more promises that we do not plan to keep and no more little white lies that we tell to make people feel better. At first this might seem like a thing. We always say that honesty is one of the important things.. Would a world where nobody can lie really be a better place? It is not as simple as it sounds.

THE END OF  DECEPTION

One of the things that would change is that people would not be able to trick each other anymore. Scams and frauds would almost disappear. People would not be able to fool others into giving them money or personal information. Businesses would have to be completely honest about what they’re selling. Politicians would have to tell the truth about what they want to do.

As a result people would probably trust each other more. We would not have to worry all the time about whether someone’s trying to manipulate us. When we make agreements we would know that the other person means what they say .

RELATIONSHIPS WOULD CHANGE FOREVER

Our relationships are built on trust but we also use tact and diplomacy to make each other feel good. We often tell lies so we do not hurt anyones feelings. Imagine asking your friend if they like your haircut and always getting a completely honest answer.

Without lies talking to each other could get very uncomfortable. We would only give compliments when we really mean them. We would not be able to make up excuses for not going to events. We would have to learn how to be honest in a way.

On the hand our relationships might get stronger because we would always know that the other person is telling the truth. We would not have to worry about whether someone’s being sincere or not.

THE WORKPLACE REVOLUTION

The way we work would change a lot. Employees would not be able to pretend to be busy when they’re not. Employers would have to be honest about how money we make and whether we get a promotion. Job interviews would be very different because we could not exaggerate what we can do.

While this honesty could make things more fair it could also create problems. Some jobs require us to be diplomatic and strategic about what we say. It could be harder to negotiate because everyone would always tell the truth about what they want.

POLITICS IN A WORLD

Politics would probably change the most. Politicians would have to be realistic about what they promise to do. They could not hide their mistakes. Manipulate what people think by telling lies.

We would have an understanding of how the government really works. This could make our country stronger. It could also show us some uncomfortable truths about the hard decisions that politicians have to make.

Interestingly political debates could be more productive because people would focus on what they disagree about rather than making false claims.

SOCIAL MEDIA WITHOUT FILTERS

media is all about showing people the best version of ourselves. We often make our lives look better than they really are. In a world where nobody can lie social media would be very different.

We could not exaggerate how great our lives are. There would be no fake news. When we review products we would have to tell the truth. We might post often because we would know that everything we say has to be true.

While social media might be more real it could also be less fun. We would not be able to make ourselves look perfect anymore.

THE UNEXPECTED IMPORTANCE OF SMALL LIES

experts think that small lies are important for getting along with people. They help us avoid fights protect peoples feelings and keep the peace. For example if a kid draws a picture we might tell them it is great even if it is not.

Without these lies the world might seem like a colder place at first. We would have to find ways to be kind without lying.

This means that just being honest is not enough. We would have to be more empathetic and kind.

CONCLUSION

A world where nobody can lie would be an interesting place. There would probably be crime and corruption and more trust. Everything would be out in the open. However not being able to tell harmless lies could create problems in our relationships at work and in our everyday conversations.

What this thought experiment shows us is that honesty is important. So are empathy, kindness and understanding. Maybe the perfect world is not one where nobody can lie. One where we can balance truth with compassion. The way we tell the truth is just as important, as the truth itself.
