Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Union Budget 2026–27 is based on the sole concept of the government’s target of becoming a developed India by 2047 — known as Vik sit Bharat.

The scheme provides relief to the middle class with no tax payment up to ₹12 lakhThis scheme will benefit the middle class by waiving tax up to ₹12 lakh.

The income tax relief was the biggest news of the day. Under the new tax regime, the government has announced that people with annual income up to ₹12 lakh will not have to pay income tax. This limit gets reduced to ₹12.75 lakh for salaried employees who also receive a standard deduction of ₹75,000.

It is a big advantage to the crores of working class Indians, be it teachers, government employees, shop owners or young professionals. More funds in people hands, more they can spend, save or pay for their kids’ education and healthcare. The government is also making strides towards a simpler and more trust-based tax system, minimizing paperwork and legal conflicts for the honest taxpayer.

Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MS me) are the mainstays of Indian economy, providing jobs to millions of people. To make money readily available to SMEs, the budget has created an SME Growth Fund of ₹10,000 crore.

The credit guarantee cover for MS me — which helps small businesses get loans even without big assets as security — has been doubled from ₹5 crore to ₹10 crore. This implies that the increasing number of small factories, shops and service enterprises can borrowed and expand.

A new entrepreneurship scheme for women, Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) who are starting business for first time is also available. This will help pave the way for a more inclusive economy that does not discriminate on gender and background.

 

5. Health and Education: Investing in People.

The government has made health and education key priorities, recognizing that a country’s greatest strength is its people.

The budget allocates more than ₹1 lakh crore for the health and biopharma segment in the healthcare field. The government is going to establish Day Care Cancer Centre’s in all district hospitals within three years, so that people have to travel to big cities to get cancer treatment will be reduced. Mental health institutes are to be built in Ranchi and Tezpur, an area that has been ignored for long.

IIT infrastructure is being expanded in the field of education with 6,500 more student seats. A Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for education will be set up with ₹500 crore in funding, training students for the jobs of the future. Investments such as hostels and skill development programmes are also included that cater to women to involve more women into the workforce.

6. Technology and Manufacturing: India Future Ready

India is aiming to be a global leader in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. In this regard, the government has introduced India Dedicated rare earth corridors in the coastal states which are rich in minerals such as Odisha, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Carbon Capturing and Storage (CCUS) technologies — supporting sectors such as steel, cement and power plants to cut their carbon footprint. This is India’s pledge towards a cleaner tomorrow, without compromising on growth.

7. Fiscal Health: Keeping the Economy Stable

All these announcements are expressions of a delicate balancing act. The government has decided to keep the deficit at a modest 4.3% of GDP, so it’s not borrowing too much. Central government debt is also projected to come down to 55.6% of GDP, a positive sign of financial disciplined
