Humid pre-monsoon conditions to continue as cloud cover offers limited relief; thundershowers may bring temporary respite

Chandigarh is expected to continue experiencing heatwave-like conditions over the next two days, with high temperatures, elevated humidity levels, and uncomfortable pre-monsoon weather persisting across the city. Weather officials have also indicated the possibility of rainfall and thundershower activity on Sunday, which may provide temporary relief from the prevailing heat.

According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures are expected to remain above normal, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay relatively high due to increased moisture in the atmosphere. The combination of heat and humidity is expected to make conditions feel more oppressive, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Meteorologists attribute the current weather pattern to pre-monsoon conditions prevailing across north India. Warm winds, rising humidity, and intermittent cloud cover have become common features of the region’s weather. While cloud cover may prevent temperatures from reaching extreme peaks on some days, experts note that it is unlikely to provide substantial relief from the sticky and uncomfortable conditions.

The IMD has forecast the possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday. Weather experts say any showers that occur could temporarily lower temperatures and improve conditions, although the relief may be short-lived if humidity remains high. Forecasts regarding the timing and intensity of rainfall remain subject to change based on evolving atmospheric conditions.

Meteorologists are also closely monitoring the progress of the southwest monsoon, which plays a crucial role in determining weather patterns across the region. While monsoon advancement continues in parts of the country, Chandigarh is still experiencing typical pre-monsoon weather.

Authorities have advised residents to remain hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions for vulnerable groups, including children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers. Persistent heat has also contributed to increased electricity demand, higher water consumption, and discomfort for commuters.

Chandigarh and neighbouring areas have witnessed above-normal temperatures in recent days, reflecting a broader regional trend. Residents are likely to experience continued heat and humidity in the coming days, while weather officials continue to monitor conditions as the region awaits more widespread monsoon activity.
