Thousands of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) allottees will have to wait longer for clarity on pending relief measures after a key board meeting scheduled for today was postponed. The meeting was expected to discuss several important issues, including the recovery of outstanding dues amounting to nearly ₹52 crore from around 13,000 defaulters.
The postponement has created uncertainty among affected residents who were hoping for a decision on possible relief measures and revised payment options. Many allottees have been awaiting a resolution for months, particularly those facing financial difficulties and seeking relief from penalties or accumulated dues.
According to sources, the Chandigarh Housing Board was expected to review various proposals related to the recovery of pending payments and explore options that could help both the board and the defaulters. The issue has become significant due to the large number of allottees involved and the substantial amount of money pending recovery.
Officials had earlier indicated that the board was considering measures aimed at encouraging defaulters to clear their dues while ensuring that genuine cases received appropriate consideration. However, with the meeting now deferred, any decision regarding concessions, payment restructuring, or other relief measures has also been delayed.
Residents affected by the issue have expressed disappointment over the postponement, saying they were expecting concrete announcements that could provide financial relief and certainty. Several housing board allottees believe that a timely resolution is necessary to prevent further accumulation of dues and legal complications.
The Chandigarh Housing Board has not yet announced a new date for the meeting. Until a fresh meeting is scheduled and decisions are finalized, nearly 13,000 defaulters will continue to await the board’s verdict on the recovery of ₹52 crore in outstanding dues and any potential relief package that may be offered.
