The United Nations has welcomed reports of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hizbullah and called on all sides to stop fighting and commit to dialogue. UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organization views dialogue as the only path to long-term peace and stability in Lebanon.
Despite reports of a ceasefire, military activity continued across southern Lebanon. UN peacekeepers recorded hundreds of projectile launches, dozens of airspace violations, and multiple air strikes within a single day. The United Nations urged all parties to respect existing agreements and avoid actions that could trigger further escalation.
Humanitarian teams have intensified relief efforts to support families displaced by the conflict. UNIFIL coordinated several humanitarian missions and expanded the distribution of food and essential supplies to affected communities. Aid workers continue to assist people who remain outside their homes due to ongoing security concerns.
The conflict has disrupted the lives of thousands of civilians across Lebanon. Many families still cannot return home safely, even after ceasefire announcements. Shelter managers reported that some displaced residents initially left temporary accommodations but later returned because security conditions remained uncertain.
During the briefing, UN officials stressed that Lebanon needs peace, reconstruction, and stability. The organization urged all parties to prioritize civilian safety, reduce tensions, and create conditions that allow communities to rebuild their lives. The United Nations also emphasized that lasting peace requires cooperation, restraint, and sustained diplomatic engagement.
