Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has accused the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of orchestrating a political conspiracy to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The statement has intensified the ongoing political war of words between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Akali Dal.
Addressing the media, Cheema alleged that Akali leaders have been spreading misleading narratives and making baseless allegations against the Chief Minister to divert public attention from key issues. He claimed that the opposition has failed to accept the growing support for the AAP government and has therefore resorted to political tactics aimed at damaging Mann’s reputation.
Cheema defended the Chief Minister’s leadership and highlighted the government’s initiatives in education, healthcare, anti-corruption measures, and public welfare. He argued that the government remains focused on development and governance despite repeated attempts by political opponents to create controversy.
The minister also urged the people of Punjab to judge the government based on its performance rather than political accusations. He said that the public is aware of the motives behind such campaigns and will not be misled by what he described as negative politics.
The remarks come amid heightened political activity in Punjab, where parties have intensified their attacks on one another ahead of future electoral battles. While the Akali Dal continues to criticize the state government on several issues, the AAP leadership maintains that opposition parties are trying to undermine its achievements through politically motivated campaigns.
The latest exchange reflects the growing political rivalry in Punjab, with both sides seeking to strengthen their position before the next major elections.
