The Supreme Court has directed former Haryana MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker to submit a concrete proposal outlining how he intends to repay hundreds of homebuyers who allegedly suffered financial losses in a real estate project linked to him. The court’s intervention comes amid ongoing legal proceedings concerning complaints from buyers who claim they invested their savings in housing projects but did not receive possession of their promised homes.
During the hearing, the apex court expressed concern over the plight of affected homebuyers, many of whom have been waiting for years for either possession of their flats or a refund of the money they invested. The bench emphasized that innocent buyers should not continue to suffer due to delays and disputes surrounding the project. The court asked Chhoker and the concerned parties to present a practical roadmap for resolving the matter and compensating those who were allegedly duped.
The case is linked to allegations of financial irregularities and delays in housing developments associated with companies connected to the former legislator. Homebuyers have argued that despite making substantial payments, construction work remained incomplete and commitments made by the developers were not fulfilled.
The Supreme Court’s direction is being viewed as a significant step toward securing relief for affected buyers. Legal experts believe that a court-monitored repayment plan could help ensure accountability and provide a structured mechanism for compensation.
The matter remains under judicial consideration, and the court is expected to review the proposed repayment strategy in upcoming hearings. For the affected families, the proceedings represent a crucial opportunity to recover their investments and bring a long-running dispute closer to resolution.
