Chandigarh, June 2026: In a major organizational restructuring exercise, the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has announced the appointment of 104 Block Congress Committee Presidents across 19 districts of the state. The appointments, approved by Haryana Congress chief Rao Narender Singh, come after nearly 12 years and are aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots network ahead of future political battles.
The move is being viewed as an important step in the Congress party’s ongoing organizational rebuilding campaign. Block presidents play a crucial role in coordinating party activities at the local level, mobilizing workers, conducting membership drives, and ensuring communication between district and state leadership. Party leaders believe the appointments will help improve the Congress’s presence at the booth and village levels across Haryana.
However, the announcement has also sparked criticism because none of the 104 newly appointed block presidents are women. Political observers and women’s rights advocates have questioned the absence of female representation, especially at a time when political parties are emphasizing women’s participation in leadership roles. Critics argue that the decision sends a disappointing message regarding gender inclusion within the party structure.
Congress leaders have defended the appointments, stating that the selections were made based on organizational experience, local influence, and the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. The party has indicated that further organizational appointments may be made in the future, potentially providing opportunities for broader representation.
The appointments mark one of the most significant organizational exercises undertaken by the Haryana Congress in over a decade and are expected to play a key role in shaping the party’s strategy and outreach efforts across the state in the coming years.
