Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for nine districts of Haryana, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in isolated areas. Despite today’s weather activity, the southwest monsoon is expected to remain weak across most parts of the state until July 18, resulting in below-normal rainfall and rising humidity.
According to weather officials, northern and northeastern districts have a higher chance of receiving showers, while central and southern parts of Haryana are likely to witness mostly dry weather with cloudy skies and humid conditions.
Nine Districts Under Rain Alert
The IMD has placed nine districts under a rain alert for the day. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is expected in isolated areas. Districts such as Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Jind, Sonipat, and Panipat are likely to receive rainfall during the day.
Weather experts said the rainfall may bring temporary relief from the heat. However, it is unlikely to revive monsoon activity across the state immediately.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning.
Weak Monsoon to Continue Until July 18
Meteorologists said the southwest monsoon has weakened over Haryana because of reduced moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. As a result, widespread rainfall is not expected over the next few days.
Although isolated showers may continue in some districts, most parts of the state will experience dry weather and high humidity until July 18.
Weather officials said monsoon conditions could improve after fresh weather systems develop over northern India. Until then, rainfall will remain scattered and uneven.
Humidity to Cause Discomfort
The weak monsoon has increased humidity across Haryana. While temperatures are close to normal, the high moisture content in the air is making conditions feel hotter.
People in cities and towns are experiencing sticky weather, especially during the afternoon hours. Health experts have advised residents to drink plenty of water, wear light cotton clothes, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat.
Children, senior citizens, and people with health conditions should take extra precautions to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
Farmers Closely Monitoring Weather
The changing weather pattern has become a concern for farmers across Haryana. Many paddy-growing regions depend on regular monsoon rainfall to maintain adequate soil moisture.
Agriculture experts have advised farmers to follow official weather updates before making irrigation decisions. They also recommend efficient water management until rainfall becomes more consistent.
The agriculture department continues to monitor crop conditions and provide timely advisories to help farmers manage changing weather conditions.
Authorities Urge Caution
The administration has advised people to stay alert during thunderstorms. Motorists should drive carefully on wet roads, as sudden rain may reduce visibility.
Residents living in low-lying areas should remain prepared for temporary waterlogging if heavy showers occur. People have also been asked to secure loose outdoor objects that could be affected by strong winds.
The disaster management authorities are monitoring the situation and remain ready to respond to any weather-related emergency.
Weather Outlook for the Coming Days
The IMD expects cloudy skies and isolated showers in parts of Haryana over the next few days. However, widespread rainfall is unlikely before July 18.
Weather experts say a stronger monsoon phase may return only after favourable atmospheric conditions develop. Until then, people should prepare for humid weather, occasional rain, and warm daytime temperatures.
Officials have urged residents to keep track of daily weather bulletins issued by the IMD and local authorities for the latest updates.
While today’s rainfall may provide temporary relief in some districts, Haryana is expected to continue experiencing weak monsoon conditions for the next several days.
