The Haryana government has tightened security and sealed the Shambhu border ahead of the proposed Kisan Mahapanchayat in Delhi, as thousands of farmers from Punjab and neighbouring states began moving towards the national capital. Authorities have deployed heavy police forces, installed barricades, and increased surveillance to prevent any disruption to law and order.
The Shambhu border, a key entry point connecting Punjab and Haryana, witnessed heightened security arrangements from the early hours of the day. Police personnel were stationed in large numbers, while vehicles were being checked thoroughly. Traffic movement in the area remained affected as officials monitored the situation closely.
Farmer organisations have called for the Mahapanchayat to press the Central Government on several long-pending demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), debt relief, and other agricultural issues. Leaders have urged farmers to participate peacefully while continuing their campaign for policy reforms.
Haryana officials stated that the security measures have been taken as a precaution to maintain public safety and ensure smooth movement on highways. Authorities have appealed to commuters to avoid unnecessary travel near the Shambhu border and follow traffic advisories issued by the police.
Meanwhile, farmers expressed disappointment over the restrictions, saying they have the democratic right to hold peaceful protests. Several farmer leaders criticised the border sealing and urged the government to allow protesters to travel without obstruction.
The situation at the Shambhu border remains under close watch, with additional security personnel kept on standby. Officials said the restrictions would remain in place depending on developments related to the farmers’ march and the Kisan Mahapanchayat in Delhi.
