After 42 Years of Legal Battle, High Court Upholds Daughters’ Rights to 21 Kanals of Land, Rejects Claimant’s Status as Son

In a significant ruling that brings an end to a four-decade-long inheritance dispute, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has upheld the rights of a farmer’s daughters over 21 kanals of agricultural land and rejected the claim of a man who asserted that he was the deceased farmer’s son.

The case dates back more than 42 years and revolves around ownership of farmland left behind by a farmer after his death. The claimant argued that he was the biological son of the deceased and therefore entitled to inherit the property. However, the farmer’s daughters challenged the claim, maintaining that he had no legal right to the land.

Over the years, the matter passed through multiple legal stages before finally reaching the High Court. After examining the available records, evidence, and family details, the court found that the claimant had failed to establish his status as the deceased farmer’s son.

As a result, the court dismissed his claim and ruled that the farmer’s daughters would retain ownership rights over the 21 kanals of land. The judgment effectively ends one of the region’s longest-running family property disputes.

Legal experts say the ruling reinforces the importance of documentary evidence in inheritance cases and highlights the judiciary’s commitment to protecting lawful property rights. They also noted that the decision reflects the growing recognition of daughters’ inheritance rights under Indian law.

The verdict has drawn attention because of the unusually long duration of the case and its implications for similar property disputes. For the daughters, the ruling marks the end of a legal battle that spanned more than four decades and several generations.

With the High Court’s decision, ownership of the agricultural land now stands firmly in favor of the farmer’s daughters, bringing closure to a dispute that began more than 42 years ago.
