Chandigarh, June 2026: Suspended Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh (H.S.) Bhullar has once again approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking bail in the corruption case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Bhullar, who was arrested in October 2025, has remained in judicial custody after multiple courts denied him relief in the high-profile bribery case.
According to case records, the CBI accused Bhullar of demanding and accepting illegal gratification through intermediaries while serving as DIG of the Ropar Range. During raids conducted after his arrest, investigators reportedly recovered several crores of rupees in cash, gold, luxury watches, and documents related to numerous properties. The agency has also been probing allegations of disproportionate assets linked to the senior police officer.
Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected Bhullar’s regular bail plea, observing that the seriousness of the allegations and his position as a senior police officer warranted caution. The court also expressed concerns that his influence within the police system could potentially affect witnesses or the investigation.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court also declined to grant him bail but allowed him the liberty to approach the High Court again if the trial did not commence within a stipulated period. Acting on that liberty, Bhullar has now filed a fresh bail petition before the High Court, arguing that the investigation is complete, charge sheets have been filed, and prolonged incarceration is unjustified.
The High Court is expected to hear the matter in the coming days. The case continues to attract significant public attention due to the corruption allegations against a senior IPS officer and its wider implications for accountability within law enforcement agencies.
