In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, the Punjab Police have arrested four members of an extortion gang allegedly involved in threatening local residents and businessmen for large sums of money. The arrests were made by the Amritsar Rural Police following an investigation into multiple extortion-related incidents reported in the Ramdas area of Amritsar district.
According to police officials, the accused have been identified as Kulwinder Singh alias Bhullar, Akashdeep Singh alias Sunny, Akashdeep Singh alias Baba, and Jagtar Singh. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang was operating under the directions of foreign-based gangster Jeevan Fauji and his associate Preet, who are believed to be coordinating criminal activities from abroad.
The case came to light after two separate extortion complaints were lodged by residents of Sudhar village. In one instance, a victim allegedly received threats demanding ₹30 lakh, followed by gunfire at his residence when the demand was not met. In another case, the village sarpanch was reportedly threatened with a demand of ₹50 lakh and later targeted in a petrol bomb attack. The threats were allegedly made through international phone numbers, making the investigation more challenging.
Punjab Police said technical surveillance and intelligence inputs helped trace the suspects, leading to their arrest. Officials stated that the operation is part of the state government’s ongoing campaign against gangster networks and extortion rackets. Further investigations are underway to identify additional associates, financial links, and overseas handlers connected to the gang.
The arrests are being viewed as a major success in Punjab Police’s efforts to curb organized crime and restore public confidence in law enforcement across the state
