Kaithal, Haryana: A 24-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances in Cheeka town of Kaithal district. The incident has raised serious concerns about dowry harassment.
The deceased has been identified as Meenakshi. She got married just three months ago to Mangal Ram, a local shop owner.
According to the police, a case has been registered. The accused include the husband, his brother Himanshu, and their father. The case was filed after a complaint by the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Saroj, has made serious allegations. She claimed that her daughter faced regular harassment. She also said Meenakshi was beaten over dowry demands.
In addition, the family stated that Meenakshi was two months pregnant. They alleged that the in-laws demanded more dowry, including a motorcycle. They also taunted her for not bringing enough gold during the wedding.
On Saturday night, Meenakshi spoke to her mother. She sounded scared and asked to be taken home. However, the next morning around 8:30 AM, her father-in-law called. He informed the family that Meenakshi had hanged herself.
After that, the body was taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. At the hospital, both families argued. The victim’s father accused the husband and in-laws of murder.
Police reached the spot soon after the incident. They found the body hanging from a ceiling fan in the room.
SI Randeep said that a case has been registered under relevant sections, including abetment to suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
