Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra Police have intensified their campaign against the illegal drug trade. Police registered 83 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 156 accused in four months.
The campaign ran from March 25 to July 26. Police conducted searches across the district. They targeted drug smugglers and others linked to the narcotics trade.
Major Drug Seizures
Police seized large quantities of narcotics during the campaign. The recoveries included 655.84 grams of heroin, more than 39 kg of opium and around 161.71 grams of smack.
Police also seized more than five quintals of poppy husk, over 22 kg of cannabis and 8 grams of charas. Officials said the international-market value of the seized drugs runs into crores of rupees.
Police Take Action Against Accused
Police demolished properties linked to four offenders. They also attached the assets of four other accused.
Officials detained another accused under the PIT-NDPS Act. Police also arrested a wanted accused in an NDPS case.
A Kurukshetra Police spokesperson said the Haryana DGP had directed the campaign. Police teams will continue strict action against drug smugglers.
Awareness Campaigns Underway
Police are also focusing on drug awareness and rehabilitation. Teams are visiting villages, schools, colleges and public places.
Officials are educating young people about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Police teams are also identifying people affected by addiction. They are helping such individuals access treatment.
Police spokesperson Naresh Kumar said drug abuse harms individuals, families and society. He also linked drug addiction with crimes such as theft and snatching.
Police have urged residents to report illegal drug activities. Officials said they will keep the identity of informants confidential.
The police said enforcement, awareness, family support and treatment can help create a drug-free society.
