With the monsoon season approaching, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has intensified its preparedness measures by setting up 18 flood control teams to tackle waterlogging and ensure a swift response during heavy rainfall. The initiative aims to minimize disruption to daily life and protect vulnerable areas from flooding.
Officials said the teams have been strategically deployed across different parts of the city and will remain on standby throughout the monsoon period. Each team has been equipped with the necessary machinery, manpower, and resources to respond to emergencies, clear blocked drains, and manage water accumulation in low-lying areas.
As part of its preparedness plan, the civic body has also accelerated the cleaning of stormwater drains, desilting operations, and inspections of pumping stations. Authorities have identified flood-prone locations and directed field staff to maintain constant monitoring during periods of intense rainfall. Control rooms will function round the clock to receive complaints and coordinate emergency responses.
Senior MC officials stated that special attention is being given to areas that experienced severe waterlogging during previous monsoon seasons. Departments concerned have been instructed to ensure that drainage infrastructure remains functional and that response teams can reach affected locations without delay.
The corporation has appealed to residents to cooperate by avoiding the dumping of waste into drains and reporting any waterlogging issues promptly. Public awareness measures are also being undertaken to reduce risks associated with heavy rainfall.
With 18 flood control teams now in place and preventive work underway, the Municipal Corporation hopes to mitigate the impact of monsoon-related challenges and ensure smoother management of urban infrastructure during the rainy season.
