ATTARI, PUNJAB: A group of 518 Sikh pilgrims crossed into Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah Integrated Check Post on Wednesday to participate in religious events marking the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev. The pilgrimage marks an important spiritual journey for devotees visiting several historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan.
However, 78 pilgrims were unable to proceed due to issues related to travel documents and visa clearances. Authorities at the Attari border reportedly stopped the pilgrims after discrepancies were found in their paperwork during the verification process.
The devotees who successfully crossed the border are expected to visit prominent Sikh religious sites, including gurdwaras associated with Sikh history and heritage. The pilgrimage has been organized under the framework that facilitates religious visits between India and Pakistan.
Border and immigration officials conducted thorough checks to ensure compliance with travel regulations and security requirements before granting clearance to pilgrims. Those who were denied permission to travel were advised to resolve their documentation issues through the appropriate channels before undertaking future visits.
The annual pilgrimage holds deep religious significance for Sikhs, as it provides an opportunity to pay homage at sacred sites located in Pakistan. Family members and community leaders gathered at the Attari border to bid farewell to the pilgrims embarking on the spiritual journey.
Officials stated that cooperation between the two countries continues to facilitate such religious visits, enabling devotees to connect with important places linked to Sikh history and faith.
