Political flags and representatives in discussion symbolizing alliance talks and changing political equations in Punjab.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has said that it has not received any formal invitation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for talks on a possible re-alliance, adding a new dimension to political discussions in Punjab.

The statement comes amid speculation about possible changes in political equations ahead of future elections in the state. SAD leaders clarified that no official communication has been received from the BJP regarding any proposal to revive their previous alliance.

The SAD and BJP were longtime allies before their relationship ended in 2020 following differences over several issues, including agricultural laws. Since then, both parties have contested elections separately and focused on strengthening their independent political positions in Punjab.

SAD leaders stated that any future political decision would be taken after considering the interests of Punjab and the party’s organisational priorities. They also emphasized that alliances require mutual discussion and a clear understanding between parties.

The BJP has also been working to expand its political base in Punjab, while the SAD continues efforts to rebuild support among voters across the state.

Political observers believe that any possible alliance between the two parties could have a significant impact on Punjab’s political landscape, especially as parties prepare for upcoming electoral challenges.

For now, the SAD’s statement indicates that no formal talks have taken place, keeping the possibility of a future alliance uncertain. The issue is expected to remain a topic of discussion as political parties evaluate their strategies in the coming months.
