Residents advised to stay cautious as thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall are forecast across several districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a three-day weather alert for Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy hailstorms, thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and widespread rainfall across several districts of the state. Authorities have advised residents, tourists, and farmers to remain cautious as changing weather conditions are expected to affect daily life over the coming days.

The alert covers multiple hill districts, including Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Solan, Sirmaur, and adjoining areas. According to the IMD, intermittent rainfall accompanied by hailstorms and gusty winds is likely to occur at various locations, particularly in higher-altitude and mountainous regions.

Weather conditions changed noticeably in Shimla on Tuesday, where residents experienced bright sunshine during the morning hours before cloud cover gradually increased later in the day. Meteorologists said the development was consistent with the forecast indicating an approaching western disturbance likely to trigger unstable weather conditions across the state.

Officials of the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) and district administrations have directed local agencies to remain alert. Advisories have been issued urging people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense weather activity, especially in landslide-prone and flood-sensitive areas. Tourists visiting hill stations and high-altitude destinations have also been advised to monitor official weather updates.

Farmers and orchard owners expressed concern over the possibility of hailstorms damaging fruit crops and seasonal produce. Tourism operators also warned that adverse weather could affect travel plans and outdoor activities. Experts noted that strong winds and lightning may disrupt transportation and power supply in vulnerable regions.

Meteorologists said Himachal Pradesh has witnessed fluctuating weather patterns in recent weeks, including rainfall, localized hailstorms, and temperature variations. Disaster management specialists recommended staying indoors during thunderstorms, avoiding trees and weak structures, securing loose objects, and following official advisories.

Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as weather systems develop across the region during the next three days.
