Venkatesh (Vainket) Garg, a Haryana-based gangster who had been hiding in the European nation of Georgia, was extradited to India after a long international operation involving the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Haryana Police, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Georgian authorities. He is considered one of the prime accused in the murder case related to BSP leader Harbilas Singh Majra.
Garg, a resident of Naraingarh in Haryana’s Ambala district, allegedly has links with the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, which is known for running extortion and contract-killing operations from abroad. Investigators claim that after the murder incident, he fled India using forged documents and established himself in Georgia, from where he continued to coordinate criminal activities.
The murder case dates back to January 2025, when BSP leader Harbilas Singh Majra was shot by unidentified assailants near Ahluwalia Park in Naraingarh. He later succumbed to his injuries. Police investigations named Venkatesh Garg as the main conspirator behind the attack, allegedly linked to a property dispute. Haryana Police had announced a ₹2 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.
Authorities state that Garg is wanted in more than 10 criminal cases, including murder, extortion, and organized crime. An Interpol Red Corner Notice was issued against him, eventually leading to his detention in Georgia in late 2025. After completing legal formalities, he was extradited to India on June 11, 2026.
His return is being seen as a major success for Indian law-enforcement agencies in their efforts to bring back fugitives operating criminal networks from foreign countries.
